Sustainable fertilizer company AgroLiquid said Wednesday it will acquire Monty’s Plant Food Company to expand into soil health and other crop nutrition products.
Monty’s Plant Food Company, based in Louisville, Kentucky, specializes in products made of humic and fulvic acids, which some research has shown increases the nutrient uptake and water retention of soil to improve crop health. The chemicals come from decomposed organic matter and can help farmers reduce the need for chemical fertilizers.
The deal takes effect at the start of next year, though both companies will operate independently and maintain their individual branding through the 2025 growing season. Financial terms were not disclosed.
AgroLiquid, based in St. Johns, Michigan, makes liquid fertilizer products that claim to protect nutrients from loss to the environment, providing economic and climate benefits. The company's Nutriq technology activates available nutrients at optimized times to maximize a "crop’s full potential," according to its website.
“While both companies share the same goals in advancing agricultural innovations, our different approaches to achieving them will create new opportunities to optimize nutrient efficiency and productivity for growers,” Nick Bancroft, CEO of AgroLiquid, said in a statement.
The acquisition builds on AgroLiquid’s growth strategy after moving forward with plans to build a 48,355 square-foot production facility in Lake City, Florida. The liquid fertilizer plant is set to be fully operational early next year.
